Five Minutes with A Cup of Chic

April 21, 2015

After two weeks of almost no digital access – except for several sneaky Instagram posts, I’ve come back refreshed and inspired and what better way to get over my holiday blues than to finally showcase one of my favourite new local homewares stores; A Cup of Chic.a cup of chic 2

If you haven’t yet seen A Cup of Chic’s enchanting posts on Instagram, I suggest you get your credit card out and prepare to fall in love with everything you see!

This life/style online concept store epitomises affordable luxury with a clear focus on “refined essentials to inspire your home and your every day”. Here you’ll find a selection of Scandinavian designs alongside classic and contemporary homewares and lifestyle products “sourced from independent design brands and creatives across the world”.

A Cup of Chic was founded by Perth locals and life-long friends Jessica and Michelle – some of you will recognise Michelle from her beautiful and well-versed blog A Minute Away From Snowing. The pair both share an entrepreneurial spirit and a similar aesthetic, “so A Cup of Chic [was] an organic, natural progression for [them]”. Before their store even opened in February, they had already sold out of some of their exclusive pieces including their coveted marble collection. A few months later, the pair have already amassed nearly 30,000 followers on Instagram and a loyal customer base – trust me their store is consistently updated with even more beautiful products, than the previous ones – it’s hard to not resist!

What is their secret?

“A lot of hard work, late nights, and no social life during the first few months helped! In all seriousness though, being creative and proactive, and having an eye for style and detail (as well as a switched on business brain!) helped [them] launch A Cup of Chic from concept to launch in three months.”

How do the pair decide on what products to stock?

“We spend every day with our finger on the pulse and a keen eye on design blogs around the world in hopes of bringing a little bit of this to our beautiful city, Perth”.

“As a local small business ourselves, we’re also passionate about discovering and supporting emerging talent, particularly those who share our vision for sustainable, and affordable, every day luxury.

Some of Jessica and Michelle’s favourite pieces include the Mathilda Clahr Leather Straps, the Jamie Kay soft cotton blankets for winter – as seen below, and their curated selection of prints from Sweden and the Netherlands.

What does the future hold for A Cup of Chic?

The pair “hope to hold pop-up stores and events for [their] Perth customers” when the time is right but at this stage they are very “focused on building and growing [their] online presence and community first.” We wish them the very best and can’t wait to see what they do next!
