May 1, 2016

After spending a week in Melbourne for work and later for play, I’ve come home to another full calendar for the month of May. While April was all about food and then exercise, this month is all about art, fashion and film! See my favourite picks below.

One Tenth Kickstarter

one-tenthWhen: Tuesday 26th April to Tuesday 24th May

Where: Kickstarter

What: Most of you by now know that I have a deep appreciation for both sustainable and ethically sourced apparel and too often the fashion industry fails to address and or support these two important elements of production. Here comes One Tenth, a Perth based brand that is changing things by highlighting responsible practices in the garment industry, by collaborating with Kolkata apparel company Freeset, to provide work opportunities for women who have been affected by human trafficking and poverty.

Their vision is to see the cycle of poverty broken and help build a better future for this community. With every T-shirt you buy, you help increase production for Freeset by creating more work opportunities. You also personally contribute towards the future of a child’s education as they invest 10% of their profits into the education program. So help make a difference by making a pledge here.

Emotional Landscapes by Francesca Gnagnarella

francesca gnagnarellaWhat: Internationally acclaimed Fremantle artist Francesca Gnagnarella launches her latest exhibition‘Emotional Landscape’ a new series of abstract landscapes inspired by Western Australia, the sunburnt country she now calls home. In this exciting new exhibition Gnagnarella uses the visually striking colours of the Western Australian landscape in combination with its scale and textures to explore a new place, land and culture. I was particularly drawn to the panting above called Bird’s Eye View II inspired by an aerial view from the plane window of the land and archipelago of islands surrounding the city. Her works are available to view and purchase here or you can request an appointment to view the collection by emailing:
