After a very busy February and Fringe-fest, there is no slowing down for March! From Joondalup’s iconic Urban Couture Festival to foodies taking over the Perth CBD and the start of the Alliance Francaise Film Festival, March is bringing the goods to Perth! Scroll down to read all about my March picks.

Urban Couture

This year quirky and iconic New Zealand designer Karen Walker is coming to Perth as Urban Couture’s Official Ambassador, to support the next generation of emerging WA designers. The 2017 program includes exhibitions from local favourites, master classes from an international artist and of course a runway show celebrating our incredible home-grown talent.

When: Wednesday 1st March to Sunday 2nd April

1. Graduate Capsule Showcase

When: Wednesday 22 March 2017 at 7.30pm

Where: Joondalup Station Square, Lakeside Joondalup

What: Handpicked from renowned design institutions and universities across Western Australia, ten fashion design graduates will showcase an exciting body of work on the Urban Couture runway. The Graduate Capsule Showcase is best known for uncovering some of Perth’s most talented emerging designers including Jonte, Natalie Rolt, Elle Campbell and Rosemaree White. So I am very much looking forward to discovering this year’s newest talent and if it couldn’t get better this will also be your chance to meet Karen Walker!

2. Nancy Riegelman workshop

When: Sunday 28 March

Where: Joondalup Art Gallery, 4/48 Central Walk at 5.00pm

What: Internationally renowned fashion illustrator and artist Nancy Riegelman joins the Urban Couture program for a once in a lifetime master class! While I like to think of myself as a creative, illustration is not my forte so I’m very excited to learn from one of the best! Book tickets before they sell out!

3. Walyoo – Elle Campbell Art

When: Wednesday 3rd March to Sunday 2nd April, Tuesday to Sunday 10.00am – 3.00pm.

Where: Joondalup Art Gallery, 4/48 Central Walk, Joondalup

What: Walyoo is Elle Campbell’s third exhibition and is a celebration of the country we tread. A reflection of identity and existence. Calling on our West Australian idiosyncrasies, Walyoo offers a melodic trip into a trance-like observatory of origin, responsibility, relationships to land, interactions with flora and historic identity.

Sculpture by The Sea

When: Friday 3rd March to Monday 20th March

Where: Cottesloe Beach

What: The largest free to the public sculpture exhibition in the world is back for its 13th year! Sculpture by The Sea  returns to Cottesloe Beach with over 70 sculptures from artists around the world. This year, with the support from Tourism WA, the exhibition brings two of the world’s most renowned sculptors to Western Australia, Zadok Ben-David and Sir Tony Cragg RA, both of whom are exhibiting in Sculpture by the Sea for the first time. To avoid the crowds and have the opportunity to fully appreciate all the sculptures I suggest waking up early, grabbing a cup of coffee – or matcha for me – and seeing them at first light.
