Detached Perspective by Anya Brock

March 18, 2016

Iconic for her brightly coloured figurative paintings and striking murals around Perth and Sydney, WA artist Anya Brock will be pursuing new creative styles through Anya Brock Capsule, a series of experimental capsule collections. Detached Perspective, is the first of her new body of work showcasing at PS Art Space Fremantle and explores expressive mark making and “complete abstraction”. The new series marks a clear departure from her original work, with a sophisticated palette of tones blues and fluid brush strokes created using various techniques. Brock’s recent move back from Sydney to…

What’s happening: March

March 1, 2016

Today we officially – and thankfully – farewell summer and welcome the cooler weather with the start of Autumn! March also marks the start of several exciting events in Perth! I’ve always loved Lei Lady Lei’s blog segment “What’s Happening”, a listicle about the key things happening in Perth each month. If you follow Lei Lei’s blog you might have seen that she has sadly moved back to Melbourne, and so with her blessing I’ve decided to continue her segment. So read on for the…

Polytechnic West Nucleo Collective

December 9, 2015

The last few weeks have been pretty hectic and sadly I’ve had to put the blog on the back-burner, but I’m finally getting around to posting about Polytechnic West’s Nucleo Collective! After seeing some of Polytechnic West’s student designs at the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival as part of the SIGNature runway show, I knew their graduating collections were going to be a feast for the eyes. And so the runway show did not disappoint, mixing engaging digital displays and a very well thought out…

The Fremantle Fashion Collective

November 15, 2015

With fast fashion retailers entering the Perth based market we often forget the impact these established retailers have on our local creatives and designers. And there are too few events that highlight the talent we have residing in Western Australia! Luckily along with the Telstra Perth Fashion Festival we also have The Fremantle Fashion Collective, in its eighth year the runway show helps support and promote Fremantle based designers including some of my favourites; Tindale, Monster Alphabets and Empire Rose! The runway show…

Akira at Telstra Perth Fashion Festival

September 22, 2015

On Friday night I had the privilege to listen to and meet Akira Isogawa at Claremont Quarter for their Meet the Designer experience. I was in complete awe by how humble, kind, talented and witty he was, which made the anticipation for his show on Saturday night even more exhilarating!…

Phuong My at Telstra Perth Fashion Festival

September 21, 2015

Delightfully dreamy, these are the two words that I think best describe what I saw at the Phuong My runway show on Friday night. It was probably the most wearable and retable collection I have seen at this year’s Telstra Perth Fashion Festival. And although it left some people feeling underwhelmed after theatrical shows like Empire Rose and Jaime Lee, I absolutely loved the collection for its subtle, feminine and elegant demeanour and for the incredible live jazz. As the rose petal adorned…

Telstra Perth Fashion Festival SIGnature

September 19, 2015

I love student runway shows for the abundance of creativity they generate, as they don’t have to think of the commercial constraints that come with their designs. This creative freedom is always exciting to watch so I was thrilled to document Polytechnic West’s first solo show for Telstra Perth Fashion Festival, SIGNature. SIGNature “was a chance to show that you can transform waste into something beautiful” old cloths and vinyl banners from local organisations and councils like the City of Perth, Tourism…
